About Chemotherapy Administration – 96409
CPT 96409 describes the intravenous push administration of a single chemotherapy or other highly complex drug or biologic agent. It is reported as the initial service when a physician or qualified clinical staff administers the agent by rapid IV push, meaning the individual physically injects the substance or an infusion running less than 15 minutes is provided. This code is used once per encounter to capture the first or only push agent given, distinct from any subsequent pushes of additional different drugs.
