Yes, code fans, it is that time of year again. With the release of the inpatient regulations, all the ICD-10-CM and -PCS changes are proposed for next year. According to my calculations, there are about 500 new ICD-10-CM codes. We will not cover all the new codes, deletions, and changes herein, or you will bail on this newsletter. Some codes are for diseases that apply to about 10 patients annually. However, if you are having trouble sleeping or have nothing to do but code, here is the complete list of new codes.
Here are the highlights by code range and specialty, if applicable, to give you a little preview of 2026 coding.
- Parasitic Diseases--B88.01 for infestation by Demodex mites, eeeuw. Demodex is a mite in human hair follicles, usually on your face. It is very common, but it goes out of control in some people.
- Cancer--This is cool (for coding, not if it's your diagnosis)-- C50.A0-C50.A2, for malignant inflammatory neoplasm of the breast.
- Hematology--D71.1 - D71.9 for disorders of the deficiencies of the polymorphonuclear neutrophils.
